Unforeseen Catastrophe Leaves Rez Cantor Stranded
I wasn’t expecting to think 15 pages in how good The 5 Moons of Tiiana would be. There are puzzles and action, espionage, and secrets. Despite the initial flow not being steady and consistent, it’s engaging and intriguing. Riveting you to the pages. It’s one of those books that makes you think oh I’ll just read one more chapter 3 chapters ago. Though you wish there were a little more in the way of world-building.
With this fastening to the pages of the story, you can imagine that the pacing is fast moving from moment to moment weighting your excitement. It is easily digestible. And, because of the loose fantastical elements and the author’s voice within the story, The 5 Moons of Tiiana would make a good transition book into science fiction.
A great addition to the book is the illustrations provided, adding weight to the story. More books should have illustrations within. The depictions are even included in the Kindle version (which is how I ingested this tale).
“My journey inland was difficult. I was in pain; everything hurt.”
But, there are questions I have while reading The 5 Moons of Tiiana. What are PMs and ATs? The author assumes you know what these things are. Not explaining the abbreviations. This lack of information (among other things) adds to the confusion created by the time I hit chapter four. It’s a criterion that I don’t like about sci-fi. It feels like elements are thrown into a blender just because they’re supernatural. Hitting the pulse button ten times to mash up the contents, then baking to come up with a conclusion you don’t truly want to eat.
In addition, sentences and planning leave something to be desired. Making some things not completely add up. For example, Rez noticed all of the silver was missing (potentially caused by the ominous clouds overhead). Running to the cover of trees. He sat there ruminating, to stand up and his pants fell to his knees. Noticing that his zipper and belt buckle were also missing. Why when he first noticed that all the silver was missing did his pants not fall then?
By this point, my interest waned to a point where I couldn’t care less about the story. Part of me wanted to see it through, with curiosity getting the better of me. Needing to see how much can be thrown into the story. On the other hand, my brain is screaming DNF it DNF it now, girl! Ultimately, DNF’ing it won out.
By no means is The 5 Moons of Tiiana a bad book. For a good period, I thoroughly enjoyed the story. But for me, it was too “camp”. You couldn’t take it seriously. Trying to do too much with each span of the chapters without giving it any real-time experience at that moment. Making it feel strange.
“Can you help me?”
Also, the characters and their ideas are solid. But for some, (like me) it is too hard to connect with them as we are thrown from planet to planet. Forced into situations. Everything from being a captain of a dead military to enslavement. There is enough content to make two books if we have time to settle and experience the moment without being thrown into the next thing, losing track of the original mission.
Another plus is P.T. Harry’s storytelling skills in The 5 Moons of Tiiana. For a debut, they are impressive and immersive. He expertly combines classic elements of space opera—like interplanetary intrigue and epic, daring rescues—with emotional depth and character-driven plots. Harry builds a richly detailed universe filled with tension, especially with the looming threat of the deadly alien cloud. His ability to create such high stakes while keeping the story grounded in the personal struggles of characters like Captain Rez Cantor and Princess Leanna showcases his versatility. The seamless blend of action, world-building, and emotional nuance reflects solid storytelling that draws readers in and holds their attention. Plus, his experience in developing several game apps likely lends to his knack for pacing and creating engaging content that feels dynamic and interactive.
“The Queen” he Whispered

Overall, his storytelling is the backbone of the novel, making it an exciting, cinematic read.
