A Story Worth the Read?
I’m struggling to find the right words to express the thoughts that come along with a paranormal romance read like Undone. Along with the finality it brings to the series. So, let’s start at the beginning yeah!?
The Lockwood trilogy gets a satisfying conclusion with Undone. The first chapter starts with a reset of sorts, in fact, that’s what the chapter is titled. It replays the last chapter of the second book in the trilogy ‘Unravel’. Resetting the tale, and starting where it left off.
As someone who often forgets a story when I finish the last sentence and close the book…I love this little refresher. And, I appreciate the fact that it also doesn’t spend too much time going down the previous rabbit hole. You get what you need to remember then continue down the new trail that Natalie is heading in.
As it is the final book in the new adult paranormal trilogy I won’t recount too much about the plot. And, if you don’t know what The Lockwood Trilogy is about check out the review I did on the first book Control. That being said, it’s suggested you read the novella ‘Black Sea’ BEFORE diving into ‘Undone’. *Side Note* if you haven’t read ‘Black Sea’ OMG it is SO GOOD. To say the least, it makes sense why you have to read that first (I guessed the answer right away). If you don’t read ‘Black Sea’ first some characters won’t make sense.
Melissa Cassera is a master storyteller
When it comes to things like the pacing of ‘Undone’ you can’t help but think it is perfect in that aspect. It is fast paced. Just enough to keep you entertained while, but not slow enough to feel like it’s dragging. The story hums with a natural cadence allowing you to sink into the folds and envelop yourself in the story.
While I loved ‘Control’, feeling meh about ‘Unravel’, and obsessed over ‘Black Sea’. ‘Undone’ brings its own power and force to the Lockwood trilogy. Strengthening your hatred for characters like Wes and Amelia. And, falling more in love with Natalie and Henry.
As the story is Undone (pun intended) the tension brackets. Each word hangs heavy on the page. A thinly veiled challenge, and a plea for more information to be divulged.
The weight of every chapter sets in. Thoughts spin and spiral in a chaotic whirl. Playing the words, over and over, to get some semblance of order to piece together the mysteries that lie ahead. Every noise, every sound fills you with dread. Hoping that the story pivots to relief moments.
The narrative is so good that you could easily devour it in one day. Foregoing things like sleep and food because books and reading are life. And, even when you decide you have to be done for the night the story swirls in your mind, building anticipation for when you can pick it up again.
Twists and Turns you won’t see coming
While I have gushed all over this new adult paranormal book, it isn’t all roses. At times, some scenes feel forced and out of place. Happening just to be happening. Like come on everything that is going on. You are being chased and hiding in a closet. Guards right outside the door and you think yeah now is a good time to have sex. It’s borderline weird.
But, beyond all that as ‘Undone’ slowly winds down, it also ramps up. Preparing you for future books that sit along this world. You can count that they are ones that I must admit I am excited for.
Undone is currently FREE on Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited. In fact, the whole Lockwood trilogy is currently FREE on KU. Now’s the perfect time to dive into this series.
