Fantasy Fall Books to Read
The Dead Romantics
Ashley Poston
The Dead Romantics in some ways reminds me of one of the best horror reads, but replace the horror with comedy. It is chocked full of:
– Ghosts
– Homecoming
– Family vibes
– Grief
Florence is a ghostwriter for a romance author.
Unfortunately, after a break-up her heart broken, and Florence no longer believes in love. Making it hard to do her job (you can’t write about something you don’t believe).
So when her editor doesn’t allow for an extension on her latest works, Florence is backed into a corner. To make matters worse her father passes away. Florence and her father shared the gift of seeing ghosts. Florence has always hated this gift, but she is learning to make peace with it.
But when she sees a ghost waiting for her on the steps of the funeral home, she’s shocked and he seems equally confused to be there. The more they get to know one another, the more Florence’s feelings towards love change.
The Night Circus
Erin Morgenstern
The Night Circus is a very different kind of fantasy book, especially from the ones that I have been reading lately. While there is magic. There aren’t any fae, no princes, and the princess saves herself (she’s not really a princess but you get the point). Set in the real world, and written in the present tense, the story has a Victorian, reminiscent dear reader feel, that makes the magical world all the more immersive.
For the longest time, this book sat on its designated Erin Morgenstern shelf — Erin has a shelf for every book, she is my favorite author, okay! I was scared to read this. What if I didn’t like it? But all that was for not because if I could give this a million stars I could.
Most people say this book is all vibes and no plot but I would disagree. While the vibes are definitely there, the plot is also quite magical!

Starlings
Amanda Linsmeier
Starlings is a book that I had to add to the fall books to-read list after reading it as an ARC earlier this year. This dark YA fantasy debut is perfect for fans of House of Hollow and Small Favors.
In the wake of her father’s death, Kit discovers a side of her family she didn’t know existed, and is pulled into a dark–and ancient–bargain she is next in line to fulfill.

Romantic Fall Books to Read
All Rhodes Lead Here
Mariana Zapata
All Rhodes Lead Here to the perfect read for fall. This one is the literal definition of a grumpy-sunshine, slow-burn romance. So, if that’s your jam this is perfect.
Losing people you love is hard.
Aurora De La Torre knows moving back to a place that was once home isn’t going to be easy.
Starting your whole life over probably isn’t supposed to be.
But a small town in the mountains might be the perfect remedy for a broken heart.
Checking out her landlord across the driveway just might cure it too.
It is heartbreaking. Will make you laugh, and be incredibly happy, all before you get halfway through the book. It will definitely give you the fall vibes!
The Great Alone
Kristin Hannah
If you know anything about Kristin Hannah ( and even if you don’t) you will know that her books are very beautiful, emotional, and impactful, and her writing is impeccable. You won’t be able to put it down.
This particular story transitions from fall to winter making a perfect addition to your list of fall books to read.
Alaska, 1974.
Ernt Allbright, a former POW, comes home from the Vietnam War a changed and volatile man. When he loses yet another job, he makes an impulsive decision: he will move his family north, to Alaska, where they will live off the grid in America’s last true frontier.
Thirteen-year-old Leni, a girl coming of age in a tumultuous time, caught in the riptide of her parents’ passionate, stormy relationship, dares to hope that a new land will lead to a better future for her family. She is desperate for a place to belong. Her mother, Cora, will do anything and go anywhere for the man she loves, even if it means following him into the unknown.
At first, Alaska seems to be the answer to their prayers. In a wild, remote corner of the state, they find a fiercely independent community of strong men and even stronger women. The long, sunlit days and the generosity of the locals make up for the Allbrights’ lack of preparation and dwindling resources.
But as winter approaches and darkness descends on Alaska, Ernt’s fragile mental state deteriorates and the family begins to fracture. Soon the perils outside pale in comparison to threats from within. In their small cabin, covered in snow, blanketed in eighteen hours of the night, Leni and her mother learn the terrible truth: they are on their own. In the wild, there is no one to save them but themselves.
Witchy Fall Books to Read
Witch of Wild Things
Raquel Vasquez Gilliland
Witch of Wild Things was just released on September 12th.
It is a beautiful love story with enemies-to-lovers and workplace romance tropes. The story will rip your heart out and put it back together, you won’t have a choice but to devour this book!
Sage Flores has a special talent for identifying plants. But that’s not her only gift. She can also connect with the plants’ souls, making them grow longer and wider. She also has another secret related to her dead sister Sky, whom she lost to an accident eight years ago. Sage can see Sky, who appears every time Sage cries, making her favorite chocolate raspberry coffee.
When Sage returns to her family’s house in Cranberry Rose to live with her aunt Nadia, and her estranged sister Teal, Sage has to confront problems related to her past.
The House Witch
Delemhach
The House Witch is a heartwarming and humorous blend of fantasy, romance, and mystery featuring a witch with domestic powers and the royal household he serves . . . dinner.
It’s written in a sort of nineties style, with omniscient and quick narration, and is adorably wholesome!
