The final TBR of the year!- Bookmas Day 1 2022
We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.
Hi guys, it’s Dominique. Welcome back to my favorite book nerds. Today’s post is the start of Bookmas, starting with my final To Be Read list of the year. I honestly cannot believe it is the end of the year and we only have one month left. I am really excited to say that I am so close to hitting my Goodreads Goal of 75 books.
In November there hasn’t been much reading since I’ve been in a slump. But your favorite book will do that to you (The Starless Sea). It is hard to stay focused but I know that December’s reading will be much better. This month’s to be read list are sure to please. So without further ado let’s go right ahead and dive in.
The first books I want to chat about is:
To Be Read Series I want to finish
Throne of Glass (Sarah J. Maas)
Last month I put the Throne of Glass Series on my to be read list.
While I was able to complete Heir of Fire in November. I really want to finish this series before the start of the new year. Or at least not too far into the new year. Here’s what I have left to read: The Assassin’s Blade, Queen of Shadows, Empire of Storms, Tower of Dawn (Tandem), and Kingdom of Ash.
Many have heard of this series but if you don’t know this series follows Celaena Sardothien. An assassin that spent years as a slave in Endovier as a punishment for her crimes.
After a year, however, she is given an opportunity: win the contest to become the king’s champion, obtain a contract, work as an assassin for the empire she loathes, and once it ends she will be free. The story hooks you from the first chapter, full of magic, humor, and romance.
Practical Magic (Alice Hoffman)
Since the Practical Magic movie is one of my absolute favorites, I thought this would be perfect for the Christmas time (yes, I know it is more Halloween-themed).
Everyone knows about the Owens family, but in case you don’t here’s a little synopsis of this series. For more than two hundred years, the Owens women have the cause for everything that has gone wrong in their Massachusetts town.
Gillian and Sally have endured that fate as well: as children, the sisters were forever outsiders, taunted, talked about, and pointed at. Their elderly aunts almost seemed to encourage the whispers of witchery, with their musty house and their exotic concoctions, and their crowd of black cats.
But all Gillian and Sally wanted was to escape. One will do so by marrying, the other by running away. But the bonds they share will bring them back—almost as if by magic…
Next, let’s get into:
ARC To Be Read List for Bookmas
The Foxglove King (Hannah Whitten)
I was so kindly gifted an ARC of The Foxglove King by Ms. Hannah Whitten (For the Wolf /For the Throne) by Orbit Books.
This is the first in The Nightshade Kingdom trilogy.
In this story we follow Lore, after growing up in a cult in the catacombs beneath the city of Dellaire, she decides to escape. Narrowingly escaping, she’s lived by one rule: don’t let them find you. Now of course that is easier said than done, especially when her death magic ties her to the city she’s trying to hide from.
Lore is a Mortem, one with magic born from death. Being a Mortem is a high-priced and illicit commodity in Dellaire. Lore’s job running poisons keeps her in food, shelter, and relative security.
But when a run goes wrong and Lore’s power is revealed and is taken by the Presque Mort, a group of warrior-monks sanctioned to use Mortem working for the Sainted King. Lore fully expects a pyre, but King August has a different plan. Entire villages on the outskirts of the country have been dying overnight, seemingly at random. Lore can either use her magic to find out what’s happening and who in the King’s court is responsible, or die.
This story is said to be super lush, as a descriptive epic fantasy. The forbidden romance will capture your heart. It allows you to fall in love with the characters as they fall in love with one another. Spellbinding you until you turn the last page.
House of Shadows (Abbey Franer)
I really wanted to add an indie author to this to be read list this bookmas and House of Shadows fit the bill.
Kali was abandoned as a child. All she ever wanted was a family. That need for belonging lures her beyond the safety of the city of Cardend. Kali is kidnapped on her way to the academy, and rescued by a mysterious elemental mage, becoming a pawn in a dangerous game, but the insidious ties she begins to form may threaten to destroy her.
This story is a constant mix of conflicting groups, misinformation that has been strategically placed, tragic backstories, romance, magic, and the lives of three small-town adolescents trapped in the middle just trying to find a home.

ARC Thrillers To Be Read for Bookmas
No Place Safe (Ramona Light)
Bookmas craves a thriller and this ones seems like the perfect one so on the to be read list it goes.
Magnolia and Peter never dreamed they’d have to flee their home in the big city to an extremely small town in Alaska. But after providing damning evidence in a murder trial, they have no choice but to leave it all behind and start again.
When a mysterious package arrives, their fragile peace quickly erodes, and strange events ensue.
An old enemy is out for revenge, but the authorities won’t listen. A web of secrets starts to unravel.
They thought witness protection would keep them safe. They thought wrong…
Thank you to Booksprout for my copy to review.
Finally, we have:
Regular TBR
The Helm of Midnight (Marina Lostetter)
The Helm of Midnight is the first book in The Five Penalties trilogy. Opening with a daring and deadly heist, the perpetrator manages to steal a dangerous artifact of terrible power: the death mask of Louis Charbon.
Louis Charbon was once known as the most terrifying serial murderer, and his death mask was created by a master craftsman, and being stolen means that someone might have the power to channel Charbon’s abilities when they don the mask. Now it’s up to Krona, De-Lia, and their fellow Regulars to find out the thieves, the truth behind this heist, and Louis Charbon himself.
The investigations are a huge part of the narrative in the story. This sounds like the perfect terrifying story full of mayhem. The plot is quite dark and grim, and if you’re not into reading grim books, you might be better off skipping this one.
Thank you to Tor Books for my copy to read. I am so excited to add this to this final to be year list this bookmas!
The Last Chance Library (Freya Sampson)
When I saw this book I immediately picked it up in hopes of reading it for Bookmas and adding it to this to be read list.
Librarian June Jones is lonely, never leaving the English village where she grew up. She is quite introverted as a shy and reclusive person, choosing to spend her time buried in books than venture out into the world (same June, same). But when her library is threatened with closure, June is forced to emerge from behind the shelves to save the heart of her community and the place that holds the dearest memories of her mother.
Well that’s it for this post. Thank you for visiting. I hope you have a good day or night wherever you are. Happy Reading!
