January means new bookish resolutions and finding books that get your year off to an excellent start. January 2024 felt like the longest and shortest month all at the same time. Nevertheless, this January Reading Wrap-Up is sure to give you ideas for the next book to add to your to-be-read list.
January Reading Wrap-Up Stats
Let’s Start the January Reading Wrap-Up
The Ritual (5 Stars)
I initially started The Ritual in late 2023 and put it down for a reason I can’t remember. What I do remember is recommending it to my bestie. Her reading it. And telling me that I needed to pick it up again. So, when I needed something SUPER spicy I decided to pick it up. All I have to say is RYAT. Ryat has officially made it to my book husband list. He is beyond morally grey (leaning into villain territory) and only has eyes for Blakely. He would burn the world and even himself to make sure she is safe and I am here for it. I can’t wait to get more into the trilogy. Partially because it is just that good and partially because there is a side character that I am intrigued about that gets his own book. A full review will be up on my page soon so stay tuned!
A Court of Mist and Fury (5 Stars)
Not much needs to be said about A Court of Mist and Fury ( or any of SJM’s books for that matter). I went into this third (or maybe fourth) reread because of the next book listed craving chapters 53 and 54. Everyone always talks about Chapter 55, but the two chapters before that will always be my favorite in the book. Since the only way to get the full experience is to reread the entire book that is what I did. I am a Rhysand STAN this man can do no wrong in my eyes. Plus, since this was a reread I found things within the pages that made me love him even more. I am hoping and praying we get a Rhysand backstory book!
A Court of Mist and Fury Rhys’ POV (5 Stars)
A Court of Mist and Fury Rhys’ POV is what prompted my reread of A Court of Mist and Fury. At the time I finished the first part of the fanfic (It is broken into separate books) and was thirsty for Rhysand and the way that he makes me swoon every time. Reading this fanfic from Rhys’ POV makes me love him even more. Side note. That isn’t saying much because I love the male perspective in any book. But is Rhysand so there’s that. Plus A Court of Mist and Fury is one of my favorites of the series. I couldn’t not read this one.
The Curse of Penryth Hall (4 Stars)
The Curse of Penryth Hall was done as an immersion read (reading the physical and listening to the audiobook at the same time). I do have a full review of The Curse of Penryth Hall that you can check out. I don’t often read historical mysteries and this one was quite entertaining. The narrator did a great job and it was a well-written story.
The Shadow of the Gods (3.5 Stars)
The Shadow of the Gods… I wrote a review for this over on After The Last Page for a guest spot for Jackie. And honestly, I still don’t know how to feel about it. There is a lot of hype surrounding this book and while I don’t know that I understand the hype I had a moderate time with the read. It is dense taking a while to ramp up and get going. I think what saved the story for me is not only Orka as a character but the ending and the way the story merges at the end.
Brutal Prince (4 Stars)
The final book read for this January reading wrap-up was The Brutal Prince by Sophie Lark. I devoured The Brutal Prince in 2 sittings. Callum is very much the anti-hero and Aida was the perfect match for him. While The Brutal Prince was enjoyable it lacked oomph. Although I do have to mention that I get a little more of that oomph from the separate book epilogue. I wanted more for the couple. They seemed great together and although it took a little more for them to realize they were perfect for one another I loved their romance and the light they brought to each other’s eyes. I will always love enemies to lovers book and that strawberry scene gives true enemies to lovers IYKYK!
