Thoughts
Going into Den of Vipers, I thought that I wouldn’t be able to do it. I read a scene and was like NO! I can’t do this. But, like my favorite word, I persevered.
I adored this book. This is my first experience with K.A. Knight, and now I want to read all of her works.
This isn’t my first dark romance or reverse harem (and if it is, go back and reroute to this one). The Vipers run and own the city. So, when Roxy’s father sells her to them, they think of it as nothing more than a business deal. They will take her, but she will end up dead before the end. What they didn’t expect was how much of a fighter Roxy is.
“When you fuck with Vipers, you get fangs.”
As a heroine, Roxy is admirable. She is independent, tough, and very beautiful. She isn’t afraid and likes the pain doled out (this comes in handy with “Captain Crazy”).
The Vipers are brothers in all sense of the word except blood (only Ryder and Kenzo are blood brothers). Ryder is the leader of the Vipers and is the face of their corporation (it’s a legit company). He is cold and calculating. His main goal is to keep his brothers safe.
Kenzo is emotional. He wears his heart on his sleeve but is also tough in his own way. He is also a master at games, runs several illegal casinos, and is wicked with reading people and his hands.
Garrett is the muscle, and he hates women. Not allowing them to be near him or touch him. He once fell in love, but he was betrayed and is scarred (literally) by her actions. He really wants Roxy but is so in the dark that he doesn’t know how to come out.
And then there is Captain Crazy himself. Diesel. He is the assassin and the most unhinged. It was initially hard to get through his chapters because he is all sorts of wackadoodle. But in turn, his chapters are some of my favorites.
“So you have demons? Baby, they match mine.”
Den of Vipers has ruined me for all other dark romances. Although if these men were real, I would scream JAIL; I wanted each and every one of them! Let them bite me and have their venom coursing through my body.
Was this book a literary masterpiece? Not in the sense that it just has wonderful prose. And if we are speaking of the plot, there isn’t one. The plot would basically be that she gets sold to a gang. She hates them at first but grows attached to them over time, and they all live happily in the end. There you have it, folks! But, beyond that, this story was a damn good time. It is engrossing. It’s action-packed. Almost reminiscent of John Wick. In the steamy scenes (and it was steamy), you will question things about yourself in the best possible way.
I laughed, I cried, I craved these men. 10/10!!! 100/10!!!
I do have to mention DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT listen to the audiobook. It will ruin the experience for you. Reading in print is definitely the way to go with Den of Vipers.
