The enemies-to-lovers tension running through this series alone is enough to rocket this to the top of your reading list, and I have a feeling this one is going to be everywhere come release day.
Pink Ink by Avina St. Graves

Dark romance readers, this one’s for you. Think Gothikana meets Dexter. A horror-obsessed film student unknowingly presents her serial killer professor with a recreation of one of his own murders. The premise alone had me adding this to my reading list immediately.
This is the kind of novel that makes you question every boundary you have and then cross it anyway, and it’s giving all the deliciously unhinged energy that dark romance fans live for.
Pink Ink is one of my most anticipated releases this August without a doubt.
You’ll Be Sorry by Lisa Gardner

A huge thank you to Grand Central Publishing for providing me with an ARC of You’ll Be Sorry, and I can already tell you, it is so good. A newlywed couple hiding secrets from each other, an abandoned home with a thirty-year-old mystery, and a small mountain town where nobody is quite who they seem.
I am thoroughly enjoying every page, and my full review is coming soon. This is exactly the kind of fiction that makes you want to cancel all your plans and just read. Consider this your early warning to add it to your August TBR list now.
The Iron Hex by Victoria S. Walsh
Iron Hex Trilogy, 1 (August 4, 2026)
A witch with a fractured memory, a kingdom freshly under empire rule, and a brooding stranger who seems to know exactly who she is—sign me up! This fantasy novel has everything I look for in a new release: slow-burn romance, forbidden magic, and a mystery that unravels as the story goes.
If you love reading books where the heroine is piecing herself back together while the world is actively trying to destroy her, this one is going straight to the top of your August TBR. I have a feeling this will be a standout fiction read of the month.
Dreamland by Olivie Blake
August 11, 2026
Dark, atmospheric, and dripping with LA gothic energy. This is one of those August releases that genuinely feels like nothing else on the list. A summer of murders, a mysterious Hollywood family, and a girl willing to do anything it takes to get the life she wants. It’s giving old-money secrets, occult history, and a romance with disaster written across the front in bold letters (in the best way possible).
I think this is one we BOTH need to add to our TBR immediately. The vibes alone are sure to be five stars.
Immortal Game by Allison Saft

Allison Saft’s Immortal Game is THE August release sapphic fantasy readers have been waiting for. A high-stakes chess tournament in the fae Otherworld, a sister worth risking everything for, and a rivalry with a sharply beautiful fae princess that is absolutely going to become more.
This novel has enemies-to-lovers tension, Irish folklore inspiration, and the kind of world-building you want to get completely lost in. If you’ve been looking for a new fantasy fiction read that delivers on both the romance and the stakes, add this one to your TBR right now.
Death Card by Jasmine Smith

Death Card has been on my radar for months, and it is giving everything. Witchcraft, tarot, sapphic romance, and a mystery that gets darker the deeper you go. The premise alone is irresistible: a witch who foresees her own murder and has to keep her killer close to figure out why.
This is a dark fantasy book with romance that feels genuinely dangerous; this August release needs to be on your TBR. It’s one of those books that has all the right ingredients to become an instant favorite.
Reliquary by Hannah Whitten
August 11, 2026
A grieving woman, an impossibly wealthy family on a private island, and secrets buried somewhere beneath the sea. Hannah Whitten’s books are always so atmospheric and unsettling, and Reliquary is sure to be the kind of book that makes you read with one eye through your fingers.
The slow-creeping dread of this one has me genuinely curious to see where it goes, and I have a feeling readers who love gothic mystery and romance with a dark twist will be just as obsessed as I know I will be.
Devil by Sierra Simone
Priest, 4 (August 11, 2026 )
The Queen Sierra Simone is back with the last book in the Priest series, with the final Bell brother, Ryan Bell.
A sculptor pouring seven years of longing into a statue of the man she can’t forget, and that very man showing up with a bargain she can’t refuse. This is the kind of slow-burn romance reading experience that ruins you for other books.
Steelborn by Taylor J. LaRue
The Steelborn Saga, 1 (August 4, 2025)
A notorious thief with a secret worth dying for, an immortal warrior running out of time, and a quest that takes them to the edge of the known world together. I have a feeling this is the kind of epic fantasy that will pull you in on page one and will never let go.
I’ve heard the tension between Reya and Caelan is chef’s kiss, and with the revolution of outlawed magic and impossibly high stakes sure to be woven throughout, this August release is one of the most anticipated new books on this entire list.
The Divine Gardener’s Handbook by Eli Snow

The Divine Gardener’s Handbook is said to be weird, heartfelt, and completely unhinged.
A Jenga-stacked megacity, sentient plants, a god who turns out to be just a very tired man with an impressive garden, and two rivals who cannot stop thinking about each other long enough to notice the revolution happening around them.
The Divine Gardener’s Handbook is the kind of release that defies easy description, and honestly that’s exactly why it’s on here.
The Never Queen by Nikki St. Crowe
Vicious Lost Boys, 5 (August 4, 2026 )
BookTok has been obsessed with the Vicious Lost Boys series (rightfully so), and The Never Queen is the epic finale this series deserves. I’ve already read this one, and you can head over to my Goodreads for a mini review, but what I will say is that if you haven’t started this Peter Pan-inspired romantasy series yet, August is the perfect time to fix that.
Enemies to lovers, morally gray love interests, and the kind of protective energy that makes you feral. This is the series that belongs on every romantasy reader’s TBR, and this final installment does not disappoint.
The Infinite State by Richard Swan

If you’ve been sleeping on Richard Swan, The Infinite State is the August release that will wake you up. This science fiction epic is the kind of ambitious, blistering fiction that stays with you long after the last page. A galaxy-spanning fascist empire, and a secret plot to build something nobody has seen in years: a democracy. It’s a story of survival, a political thriller, and an eviscerating examination of totalitarianism all at once.
The Heir of Prophecy by Analeigh Sbrana
The Clash of Prophecies, 1 (August 25, 2026)
I’ve been saving the best for last. A human woman thrown into a magical war academy, an erratic power she can’t control, and a Prince of the Underworld who is equal parts terrifying and irresistible.
The tension in this one sounds absolutely unreal. Fae fantasy readers who love a prophecy, a slow burn, and a love interest who might actually be the villain are going to want this new release on their TBR immediately. I have a feeling this is going to be one of those books everyone is talking about by the end of the month.
