October is one of the best months to curl up with a book because, really, what’s better than fall reading? The weather is crisp, the fuzzy blankets come out of the closet, and suddenly spending the entire afternoon lost in the pages of a book feels less like avoiding your responsibilities and more like the moment of self-care you desperately needed.
And then there are the October new book releases.
October’s new books give us plenty of reason to make room on our TBRs, with new releases ranging from atmospheric fantasy and swoony romance to mysteries and thrillers, and the kind of books that practically beg to be read when the sun starts setting below the horizon.
So grab something warm, get comfortable, and prepare to add entirely too many books to your already stacked TBR. It will be worth it, though.
These October New Book Releases Will Complete Your TBR

A Court of Splintered Harmony by Sarah J. Maas | October 27
If you have been anywhere on the internet, you have heard about ACOTAR 6.
Koschei the Deathless is stirring. The Night Court is healing. And there are still far too many questions we need answered. About Lucien and Elain, about a certain mating bond, and about exactly where Sarah J. Maas plans to take us next.
So, naturally, I am preparing.
I am currently rereading Crescent City 3: House of Flame and Shadow because there is absolutely no way I’m walking into the next ACOTAR book without a little refresher on the details.

Crowned by Roses by Elizabeth Helen | October 20
This is the finale to the bestselling series Beasts of the Briar. Five cursed fae princes who turn into beasts at night, one bookish heroine trying to save her father, and a bargain that absolutely does not account for her falling for the men whose mates she’s supposed to help find.
If you want Beauty and the Beast vibes with magic, danger, multiple love interests, and an inconveniently hot villain thrown into the mix. The plot threads come together; every character gets a satisfying conclusion.
This is the finale we deserve.

Dive Bar at the End of the Road by Kelley Armstrong | October 6
This is one that is sure to have you on the edge of your seat. Final Destination meets The Cabin at the End of the World, where a series of car accidents traps a group of strangers at a backwoods dive bar, where they quickly realize something isn’t quite…right.
And getting out may be far more dangerous than staying within the walls.

Victorious by V.E. Schwab | October 6
This has been the LONG-awaited ending for fans of the Villains series. Victor Vale and Eli Ever are BACK for one final game, as V.E. Schwab brings their story to its epic conclusion.
And after waiting this long, I need to know who is left standing when it’s all over.

This Shattered Tempest by Thea Guanzon | October 6
Political marriage? Check.
Two people desperately in love but somehow still ending up on opposite sides of a war? Got it.
The final book in The Hurricane Wars trilogy brings Alaric and Talasyn’s story to an end with one last battle. And this time they have to decide whether duty, destiny, or their love for one another gets the final say.

For Ever More by Sue Lynn Tan | October 27
If Never Ever After left you needing more, Yining is back, and this time she’s on the run.
She has new powers she doesn’t fully understand; there are secrets waiting at her ancestral home, and a traitorous queen sitting on a stolen throne.
The stakes have been raised.
If you love high fantasy filled with dangerous magic, complicated loyalties, hidden family secrets, and heroines forced to figure out exactly how powerful they are, this is one sequel worth making room for on your October TBR.

Undone by Peyton Corinne | October 20
We have childhood best friends turned first loves who find themselves back in each other’s lives when neither of them is exactly ok.
Yeah, this one has my attention.
Add a disgraced hockey player fighting for one last shot, a heroine desperate to reclaim control of her own life, her father as his coach, and enough unresolved feelings to make their reunion spectacularly complicated.
This is for the readers who like their sports romance angst, healing, and characters who have to fight for more than just each other.
Because Your October TBR Isn’t Long Enough Yet
The Age of Fury by John Stephens– there’s a missing twin, a notorious gangster, and the dangerous underbelly of 1907 New York, as it collides in this historical romance where uncovering the truth could cost the main character far more than she expected.
Until the Last Light Goes Out by Courtney Gould– This is exactly the kind of horror your October TBR needs. Twenty-five years after 183 students mysteriously died at an abandoned Florida Keys resort, the daughter of one of the only survivors returns when her best friend disappears on the grounds.
Under the Iron Sky by A.T. Emerald– if dark fantasy, dangerous enemies, morally complicated loyalties, and a little I absolutely should not be attracted to this man, was a book.
Twisted Vows by I.V. Marie– a gothic magical boarding school in the afterlife, forced proximity with the infamous “Demon of Blackwood,” and a romance we already know ends in tangled betrayal. Yeah, add it to the TBR.
Reap & Sow by Charlotte B. Plumb– This is a city where desperate people trade years of their lives for their deepest desires. It is filled with gothic atmosphere, dark magic, slow-burn tension, and an infuriating demon with a suspicious soft spot for humans. Yeah, go ahead and make room on your TBR.
Mortal Things by Marie Lu– a human mercenary bound to the god of Death finds herself named his heir. You get murderous immortals, divine secrets, enemies-to-lovers tension, and a looming war between gods, which makes Mortal Things very difficult to leave off your October TBR.
