April To Be Read List
In March, I read 13 books (5 eReads, 8 physical) and hope to get to at least 15-20 this month. Here are those books:
Embarking on A New Adventure: Series Beginnings
A carryover from March and a series I have started is the Rooks and Ruin series by Melissa Caruso. The series starts with The Obsidian Tower. I am about 150 pages in and I am enjoying it. The Obsidian Tower gives me classic fantasy vibes (think Shadow of the Gods without heavy constant battling). It has that mage magic, and dynamic great characters, and I love all of the LGBTQ+ rep presented in the story. Ryx the main character is bisexual but some people use they/them pronouns as well.
While I don’t typically come up with reading lists, I wanted to start giving myself a little more of a guideline so that I can tackle some of the reads that have been sitting on my shelves for a while. This includes Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. The problem holding me back isn’t necessarily the size of the book (Hell I’ve read Kingdom of Ash in 3 days). I think it is the fact that I want to read it and don’t want the duology to be a letdown. However, I’ve added it to my April to-be-read list because… It. Is. Time (in my Rafiki voice)
One of my (what I like to think of) quirks is that I need the entire series before I start reading the series. Whenever I start a book (I am looking at you Castle of Nevers and Nightmares) I fall in love and want to continue reading without it being completed, it bums me out. And although The Red Queen series is completed I don’t currently own them all. I am missing Cruel Crown, War Storm and Broken Throne. Anyway, I am going to start and buy those two books before I get to the third one in the series.
Finishing Strong: Completing Series
Finishing strong may include rereading this series’ first book because it has been a minute since I read it. That series is Red Rising. I liked the first book. It ultimately felt like set up for the first trilogy arc and I would like to finish that first arc in April at least. Thus, it goes on my April to-be-read list!
Finally, I’m going to finish the L.O.R.D.S series by author Shantel Tessier with the final book called The Sacrifice. I’ve been eagerly awaiting Tyson’s story ever since The Ritual introduced him. This series easily makes it into my top 10 dark romance series of the year.
A Standalone Journey: April’s Solo Reads
As for standalone novels on my April to-be-read list, some will consist of my yearly rereads. Life wouldn’t be complete without these. The Starless Sea (I reread it twice a year) and Addie LaRue. These two books are my God-tier books! And my love for them knows no bounds.
Additionally, there is a plan to weave Margaret Rogerson in as well this month with Sorcery of Thorns and An Enchantment of Ravens. I’ve been adding and removing these books from to-be-read lists, but this April to-be-read list will be their final destination.
A couple of ARCs and new releases are essential additions to the April to-be-read list. Here are the ARCs I plan on diving into this month:
- A Letter to the Luminous Deep
- The Honey Witch
- The Tainted Cup
- An Education in Malice
Worthy Mentions: Bonus Reads for April
Malazan is a series that I would like to start but don’t know for sure that I will get to it in April. Throughout the month, I might find myself adding it to my April to-be-read list as it ebbs and flows.
Bonus points to me if I can get to The Bad Ones by Melissa Albert, Dragon Rider by Taran Matharu (because UH DRAGONS!!!) and The Foxglove King by Hannah Whitten.
Check out my April to-be-read list! It’s not set in stone—I’m a mood reader, so I’m constantly shuffling and rearranging. But I’m eager to hear your recommendations! Drop some book titles or authors that you believe should be on my radar. Let’s expand this list together! Leave me a comment. And, don’t forget to sign up to my email list and join the book club!
Happy Reading!
