All Peter ever wanted was love. When Peter Jones mom passed, it was unbearable, starting the downward spiral that is his life. Peter and his father have always had a strained relationship, going from bad to broken when his mother was diagnosed, until the day after her passing.
A turn of events causes Peter to be on the streets. No shelter, no money, and no food. Every move Peter makes can either have a positive or negative impact on his life. In the midst of all this chaos, Peter meets Trinity King, the girl of everyone’s dreams, a girl he wants to trust, but doesn’t know if he should. Peter is losing his once happy and stable life and is unable to cope.
Can he survive all these tragedies that are coming at him fast, or will Peter give up the fight and let this cruel game of life consume him?
You can’t help but love Peter Jones
The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about this story is heartbreaking. At the start of the story, Peter loses his mother to breast cancer, leaving him alone with an alcoholic and abusive father. She was the barrier between the two, at heart protecting him from the trauma.
However, Peter is not only getting abused at home, he is getting bullied at school. From the start of the tale, you as the reader are plunged into the hurricane that is Peter’s life. As the story progresses, we come to meet what turns out to be his safe place, Trinity King. Trinity is the girl of his dreams, she is smart, beautiful, and caring.
Worth the read!
Each day after the passing of his mother brings an additional obstacle. As the story progresses, we hear the intrusive thoughts, with doses of the voice of reason coming through. I liked that this book is super relatable. As someone who deals with mental illness, you understand Peter and the thoughts that he is having.
Every time that Peter has an intrusive thought he combats that with a positive thought that he knows his mother would say to him. Reminiscing on the love that he has for him. These positive moments provide the clarity that Peter desperately needs.
In contrast, while the story at times was engaging, it desperately needs a good edit. Every time I got into the groove of reading or was having an emotional experience with the story, I ended up shell-shocked by a word or a string of words that were misspelled, whipping me out of my current state.
There were also moments that felt disjointed. Ultimately feeling like I was missing parts of the story, detracting from the experience of the book.
Overall, this was a thoroughly gripping novel, that had me on an emotional rollercoaster, that I just didn’t want to end. Once it is edited, it will be a book that will be a definite must-have for everyone to read. Anyone who has ever felt sad, in need of love, isolated, or dealing with any mental illness, will be empathetic to Peter’s journey. This resonation of the story will bring you warmth to your own journey. And who wouldn’t want that?
