What we’re looking forward to reading
1. Crescent City, 1 ( House of Earth and Blood)
by Sarah J. Maas
I am well into Crescent City at this point (like 200 pages). Am I seeing what the CC hype is about? No, not yet. Do I expect to love it? I don’t know. SJM is a great writer (I would almost say a favorite) but I foresee this being my least favorite series out of all of them.
Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her devastated. When the crimes continue even with the accused behind bars, Bryce becomes central to the investigation, determined to avenge her friends’ deaths. Hunt Athalar, a Fallen angel enslaved to the Archangels, is tasked with assassinating his boss’s enemies. He is offered freedom if he helps Bryce find the murderer. Together, they uncover a dark power in Crescent City, facing danger and finding a passionate connection that could liberate them both. This new fantasy series by Sarah J. Maas explores loss, freedom, and the power of love with unforgettable characters and gripping suspense.
Grab a copy of House of Earth and Blood on Amazon now, and add it to your June to-be-read list.
2. Roots of Chaos, 1 (The Priory of the Orange Tree)
by Samantha Shannon
I am doing it. I am finally going to read Priory. I’ve been putting off this book since I first picked it up when it was published. I was afraid that I wouldn’t like it. That I would rate it 3 stars or less. But after all this time… it is time. If you don’t know what Priory is about here it is:
In a world on the brink of chaos, the queendom of Inys is without an heir, and an ancient enemy stirs. The House of Berethnet has ruled for a thousand years, but Queen Sabran the Ninth must conceive a daughter to save her realm from impending doom, all while assassins draw near. At court, Ead Duryan, a lady-in-waiting loyal to a secret society of mages, uses forbidden magic to protect the queen. Across the sea, Tané, a dragon rider in training, faces a life-altering decision. As the East and West remain divided, chaos begins to rise.
The Priory of the Orange Tree is currently cheaper on Kindle than it is to buy the paperback (this may change).
3. The Mindf*ck Series
by S.T. Abby
I must have been under a rock because I just realized this series is on Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited (they are separate books on KU).
They took everything from me, leaving me for dead. I had nothing to lose until I met Logan Bennett—a brilliant hero who makes the world safer by locking away the wicked. But while he saves lives, I’m ending them, seeking revenge on those who wronged me a decade ago. I’ve trained and waited patiently, striking without warning. Logan, unaware of my past or the horrors I endured, doesn’t know he’s in love with their killer. As he hunts for a monster, he doesn’t suspect the girl in his bed. When the truth comes out, will Logan choose justice or join me in vengeance?
Grab a copy of The Mindf*uck series on Amazon. Or if you want to read it on Kindle Unlimited start with The Risk.
4. Leather and Lark
by Brynne Weaver
Contract killer Lachlan Kane longs for a quiet life in his leather studio, far from his traumatic past. After botching a job, he’s stuck in the underworld until indie singer-songwriter Lark Montague offers him a deal: use his skills to hunt down a killer, and she’ll secure his freedom. The catch? They have to marry first, and they can’t stand each other. Lark, the bright and glittering contrast to Lachlan’s brooding nature, hides her own secrets. Despite their mutual disdain, their fake marriage starts to feel real as they navigate the dark world binding them together. But a new, bloodthirsty threat looms on their doorstep.
5. Moonlit Thorns
by P. Rayne
The Voss brothers’ mansion looms over our small town, shrouded in mystery and rumors. After my father’s death shatters my security, I confront the eldest brother, Asher Voss, whose striking beauty hides a predatory nature. Forced into a bargain to save my family, I move into his gothic manor. Despite his age and inner demons, our undeniable attraction grows, sparking a passion that could either consume or destroy us. “MOONLIT THORNS” is a dark contemporary romance and a retelling of Beauty and the Beast.
6. The Branded Season, 1 (The Branded)
by Jo Riccioni
“The Branded” is an epic speculative novel exploring gender, class, romance, and conflict with a fast-paced narrative, with Mad Max vibes. This is one of the new releases this year.
Isfalk is a world divided between the Branded, susceptible to disease, and the immune, stronger Pure. Orphaned twins Nara and Osha, unbranded and privileged, live in a citadel as valuable breeding stock. Longing to return to their wild Fornwood home, Nara escapes and discovers the Branded are rising, entangling the sisters in their prophecies. With the help of the mysterious Wrangler, Nara uncovers her latent powers. In a world where women are commodities, Nara must navigate trust and uncover her forgotten past.
Thank you to Angry Robot for sending me an advanced copy to read. I can’t wait to get into this.
7. Moonfall, 1 (When the Moon Hatched)
by Sarah A. Parker
I recently read To Bleed a Crystal Bloom by this author. If you haven’t read my May Reading Wrap-Up, you should check it out. I unfortunately had to DNF that one. If I admit, reading When The Moon Hatched gives me pause because it is another SUPER HYPED book, and I don’t want to get my hopes up more than I already have. But here’s what When the Moon Hatched is about.
In a world where dragons unexpectedly sail skyward upon their demise, Raeve, an Elding Blade of the rebellion group Fíur du Ath, faces turmoil when a bounty hunter targets her. Amidst bloodshed and heartbreak, she falls into the clutches of the Guild of Nobles, desperate for freedom. Meanwhile, Kaan Vaegor, burdened by grief, seeks solace in a quest for a moonshard, leading him to a shocking discovery in Gore’s notorious prison. As echoes of the past resound, Raeve confronts painful truths, while a love that transcends time ignites. “When the Moon Hatched” is a fast-paced fantasy romance, blending witty banter, vibrant world-building, and a timeless love story.
Have you seen the Fairyloot edition (it’s stunning)? Did you snag one? Grab a copy of When the Moon Hatched on Amazon.
8. Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac, 1 (Dark Fae)
In a world where vampires seek vengeance and dark secrets lurk, Elise Callisto embarks on a mission to avenge her brother’s murder. With the revelation that one of the four kings at Aurora Academy is the culprit, Elise navigates a treacherous landscape where rival gangs reign and blood spills daily. Despite her delicate appearance, Elise is determined to unleash her fangs and uncover the truth, willing to sacrifice everything for justice. This reverse harem series, set in the world of Zodiac Academy, promises dark romance, twisted mysteries, and thrilling character crossovers.
Dark Fae is currently available on Kindle Unlimited.
As a mood reader, this list will most definitely change and be added to. May I read 17 books. And, while the books on my June list are THICK I do expect to read at least 10 books this month. Let me know what is on your June to-be-read list!
