I have been seeing the Do I have that Other Book Challenge all over BookTube, and I thought since I haven’t done a tag post in a while and thought this would be the perfect one. You may have seen this other book challenge all over the internet. So, I may be a couple of months late to this trend, but hopefully, that means I won’t be spamming your feed with a challenge that everyone else is doing right now!
*I have to say the more I think about it the more it is looking up for me?*
I initially saw the Do I have that Other Book Challenge over on MelReads channel on BookTube— If you haven’t seen her stuff she is great. For this challenge, many do different things. I chose to do books to include my physical reads as well as books on my Kindle.
Also, I saw where someone did a * next to the books they haven’t read. I am going to be doing that also. Without further ado, I present to you
The Do I have that Other Book Challenge
1. Do you have a book with a dragon on the cover or part of the plot?
First, The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon *
I purchased this last year in anticipation of A Day of Fallen Night, the prequel to this book, and I haven’t read it yet. It is over 800+ pages and has been super intimidating due to the size. With the newest edition being released at the end of this month, I have to say that It. Is. Time (*In my Rafiki voice*)
2. Do you have a book that was published the year you were born or within a 3-year radius?
With the wide selection of books that I have, I am surprised that I don’t have any books that were published within this span. I guess that means book shopping.
3. Do you have a book with a shapeshifter?
A Dragon in the Rough by Christina Gardner
Thirdly, I have to say that this was just a surprise read. Katheryn is a princess that can shapeshift into anything that she has seen. In fact, on many occasions, she’s had to shapeshift in order to save lives. It was fun, witty, and full of betrayal.
4. Do you have a book that is signed by the author?
Violet Made of Thorns by Gina Chen*
Then, there is this one. I received this book in a Fairyloot box, and I haven’t read it yet. Maybe part of this challenge will be for me to read all of the books that I pull that I haven’t yet read…interesting, very interesting.
5. Do you have a book with a mostly red cover?
The Bone Shard Daughter by Andrea Stewart*
Next, I was kindly sent this by Orbit publishing last month. I have been so excited to read this series that I shut down and can’t process lol. This The Drowning Empire series has had rave reviews and with Bone Shard War coming out in April, I better catch up and quickly.
6. Do you have a book with between 287-306 pages
Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell*
This one was hard to come up with. Luckily I just made a Goodwill run and picked this up. This is the only book that I had within this page range.
The book challenge continues… ?
7. Do you have a book where the main character wears glasses?
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
The most important on this list is, Zachary Ezra Rawlins. This is my #1 ALL TIME FAVORITE BOOK. Zachary is such a cute character that is extremely unsure of himself. At one point in the story, he gets his glasses back and because he is in a harbor of The Starless Sea he can read other languages.
8. Do you have a book with a title that has the same number of letters as your name?
Fireborne by Rosaria Munda*
Consequently, this one was a hard one. Either I had ones with too many letters or too few. Fireborne is the ONLY one that I own that has the same number of letters as Dominique. I haven’t read this one yet, but I’ve heard excellent things.
9. Do you have a book with music as a weapon or magic?
This Savage Song by VE Schwab*
In spite of my doubt, this certainly has to fit. I think that the two main characters Kate Harker and August Flynn use music as part of their magic. I mean the title of the book is This Savage Song so music has to have some part of the story, doesn’t it?!
10. Do you have a book with mismatched covers?
The Diviners by Libba Bray *
I have to say that I have only read the first book in the Diviners series. In fact, I also have to say that it drives me INSANE that only the last two books match. I really wish that they all matched the vibe of Before the Devil Breaks You and The King of Crows.
11. Do you have a book that has focus on cybercrime or technology?
When she Disappeared by Steph Mullin and Nicole Mabry
Okay, so I don’t know if this one fully counts, BUT the main character works with a camera crew to find her missing best friend. Doesn’t that count?? The narrator is unreliable and the ending ?.
12. Do you have a book that was another language or translated into English?
The Complete Illustrated Stories of Hans Christian Andersen*
Originally written in 1887 in Danish Hans Christian Andersen most would say is the king of fairytales. This is also my oldest book (I love thrift stores).
13. Do you have a book that’s written by an Asian author?
Heart of the Sun Warrior by Sue Lynn Tan
The stunning sequel to Daughter of the Moon Goddess delves deeper into beloved Chinese mythology, concluding the epic story of Xingyin—the daughter of Chang’e and the mortal archer, Houyi—as she battles a grave new threat to the realm, in this powerful tale of love, sacrifice, and hope. This was one of my top reads of 2022. This book was so good!
What is a Do I have that book challenge without books?! ?
14. Do you have a book with a moon on the cover?
Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater
This challenge wouldn’t be complete without this sweet and wholesome read. Following Dora through her growth and finding love. It was such a perfect read.
15. Do you have an illustrated children’s book?
A Day with Wilbur Robinson by William Joyce
I absolutely adore this movie, so I had to purchase it. For this part of the challenge, it has to be A Day with Wilbur Robinson. This book inspired the Disney Meet the Robinsons movie.
16. Do you have a book with a collection of fairytales or myths?
Grimm’s Fairy Tales *
These classic fairytales are a part of everyone’s Do I have that Other Book? book challenge! The brothers Grimm are a household name along with Hans Christian Andersen. Stories like Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty (Little Briar Rose), and Rumplestilskin are all Grimm Fairytales.
17. Do you have a book that has the first chapter of the sequel?
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
ACOTAR sweet ACOTAR. This series has the world in a chokehold! ACOTAR features the first chapter of A Court of Mist and Fury at the end. If you haven’t read this series, I hope this book challenge inspired you.
18. Do you have a book with a fox on the cover or part of the plot?
Wicked Fox by Kat Cho*
Eighteen-year-old Gu Miyoung has a secret–she’s a gumiho, a nine-tailed fox who must devour the energy of men in order to survive. Because so few believe in the old tales anymore, and with so many evil men no one will miss, the modern city of Seoul is the perfect place to hide and hunt.
19. Do you have a book with a narrow front cover? (A paperback with a front cover that is slightly trimmed shorter/narrower than the rest of the book)
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
A legendary film actress reflects on her relentless rise to the top and the risks she took, the loves she lost, and the long-held secrets the public could never imagine.
20. Do you have a book with a broken spine?
A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas
Listen! I don’t normally crap my spines. Even doing this hurt my soul and annoys me every time I look at this book knowing its spine is broken. Hear me out. I had to. Anyway, ACOWAR.
The end of the book challenge ?
So, I only ended up having 9 books on this list that I haven’t read yet. No, I am not counting the Diviners series because I started it. That’s way better than I originally thought. I do think they will be moving to the very top of my TBR pile though. That’s a good way to pick what you are going to read next, right? ?
And I don’t have a book for ?
