Some books sweep you off your feet. Others make you question your life choices. Mistress of Hours? Well… it sat on my Kindle shelf for almost a year, and maybe that should’ve been my first clue.

This debut promised forbidden love, magic, and secrets, but it had me slogging through more “telling” than “showing.” Evienne is allegedly the strongest Sangieve Ichnora has ever seen, but did I feel her power? Nope. Did the world-building whisk me away? Not quite. And if I had a dollar for every time the book reminded me of the same idea, I could afford a special edition of a book I actually love.

But then came the lore—the concept of Comhanam, fated mates who only appear once every hundred years—and suddenly, I was intrigued. Throw in a little knotting (yes, you read that right), and things got… interesting. Am I a fan now? Jury’s still out, but I am curious.

So, the verdict? If you love fantasy romance with an unusual twist, this might be worth a read. If you need pacing that moves faster than a molasses-drenched snail, proceed with caution.
